Ep 204: Dose Of Adolescence

In Episode 204 of The Popko Project Podcast, we chat with Timmy and Jimmy Brown, the brothers behind the band Dose of Adolescence. The episode dives into the band’s journey, which began in 1999 in Southern California, where they were deeply influenced by the skate-punk scene.
The brothers share their early experiences in the music industry, including their DIY efforts on Warped Tour, where they hustled to sell records and gain fans. They also reflect on their hiatus from music, largely due to caring for their aging father, and how that experience deepened their bond.
After several years away, they’ve returned to the scene with their first new music in a decade, including singles like “Lean Back” and “Get Back Up.” Their upcoming album, titled “Zircon Ave”, is named after the street they grew up on and pays homage to their father, who even joined them on the road for Warped Tour in his later years.
The conversation touches on their evolution from a punk rock band to a group that blends rock, hip-hop, and pop, influenced by a meeting with Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman and their connection with Brian Welch from Korn, who helped them land a deal with Crossover Records.
The band discusses the changes in the music industry, particularly the rise of social media, streaming, and platforms like TikTok, as well as the challenges of adapting to these new norms. Throughout, they emphasize the importance of staying true to themselves and spreading hope through their music.
